Finished with On Writing
King clearly describes the use of symbolism in chapter nine of On Writing in a way that helps me better grasp symbolism. I like that he mentions that almost all good writing uses some good literary devices like symbolism, interior dialogue, and alliteration. He proves that writing isn't for everyone. It can be long, hard, frustrating. I firmly agree with his opinion of second, and maybe even third rough drafts. The best stories are those drafted and revised to perfection. A story needs to be clear and unified. I like the part about back story and research. King goes into detail about writing seminars, publishing, and agents. Since I'm nowhere near ready to begin searching out these things, I found it hard to pay attention during that section. This section of on Writing was certainly not as entertaining as the C.V., filled with funny anecdotes and interesting stories. I've had a much harder time getting through this section of the book than the other two sections. This section has been boring, but good in a informative way. It's helped me learn a lot. All in all, I really enjoyed On Writing despite the lulls and coarse language. It's the first book I'll recommend when it comes to books written to teach good writing.
