On Writing Continued

I found the second section of On Writing slightly less entertaining and altogether more informative. I learned much more from this section which should be considered a positive thing. It was regrettably more boring than the interesting and disgusting stories of Stephen King's life. The Toolbox was very helpful. I'm sure I will refer back to the latter part of the Toolbox in later life when I need assistance in writing. I will not, however, ever refer back to or receive any help three page long description of King's grandfather's toolbox. I felt that the longevity of the his description was completely unnecessary. I enjoyed his examples of vast the vocabularies of many writers from the excerpts. I hope to one day be able to accurately use the word 'fuhgeddaboudit' in a sentence. I wish I could disagree with King's contemptuous opinion of the adverb, but I use adverbs altogether too often. I find they make writing easier even though the best writers can get their points across without using adverbs.
The beginning of the On Writing section is slightly encouraging to those of us who consider ourselves competent writers. I definitely agree with King's opinion of the use of dialogue in fiction writing. This whole third section of the book is definitely helpful and informative. i enjoy Stephen King the more I read the book.
